All around its port and citadel, the old town of Ajaccio features pretty alleyways lined with colorful tall houses. Maréchal-Foch Square, adorned with a fountain, is charming with its palm trees and plane trees.
Napoleon Bonaparte's birthplace is located in one of the alleys of the old town, specifically on Rue Saint-Charles. The Bonaparte house now houses a museum exhibiting his personal memorabilia. Other pieces (documents and medals) are on display in the Napoleonic salon located in the town hall. Many other museums are worth exploring, such as the Fesch Museum, which houses Italian paintings, and the A Bandera Museum, which traces Corsican history and culture.
